Sound Bath Experiences

An hour of sound played just for you

Private sound bath experiences for deep rest and relaxation in Wellington.

With Ola Walsh · Advanced Sound Therapist · British Academy of Sound Therapy (Distinction) · Trauma-Informed · Member of ITSA & IICT · Fully Insured

A sound bath is time set aside for your body and mind to rest. You lie down on a couch, warm and comfortable, and I play whichever instruments you'd like — crystal singing bowls, Himalayan bowls, the monochord, tuning forks or voice. As you listen, your brain moves out of busy, everyday thinking and into the slower brainwave states associated with rest, giving your body a chance to restore itself naturally.

If you have been feeling stuck physically, mentally, creatively or emotionally, this is often where things begin to move again. A personalised sound bath is perfect if you're curious about sound and want a safe, supportive place to begin, or if you've been to a group sound bath and want to experience the instruments in a one-to-one setting.

Sessions take place in my home studio in Newlands, 15 minutes from Wellington city and surrounded by trees and birdsong. Monochord and Crystal Bowl sessions can accommodate up to four people — partners, friends, sisters, anyone who would prefer to rest with another.

Sound baths may help with:

  • broken or restless sleep

  • stress and feeling overwhelmed

  • tension held in the body

  • a mind that will not switch off

  • low energy and tiredness

  • feeling stuck, mentally or creatively

  • times of change, grief or uncertainty

After the last session, I slept through the whole night without waking up at all — something which hasn't happened for me for around a year. My energy levels have improved, and also my ability to relax and recharge.

Monochord sound bath

1 hour — $140 for one person, $200 for two

For busy, overstimulated minds in need of stillness, rest and clarity

This unique relaxing sound bath experience works wonders for anyone feeling tired, overwhelmed or creatively stuck.

Thirty strings tuned to the same note are played as one continuous wave, so there is nothing for the mind to hold onto. Racing thoughts start to slow down, while a single bass string running underneath keeps you feeling anchored, supported and grounded.

The sound is rich, warm and all-encompassing, and the harmonics that come through are like a choir singing, making it feel quite otherworldly.

Available for one or two people at Moja Wellbeing Studio in Newlands, Wellington.

Himalayan singing bowl sound bath

1 hour — $140 for one person

For physical tension, restless sleep and anyone in need of grounding and support

The earthier sound of these bowls creates a slower, calming sound bath experience — perfect if you are feeling overwhelmed or holding physical or emotional tension in your body.

The session starts with an optional Himalayan bowl massage. I play a medium-sized bowl along your back, striking it softly or singing it so the vibration connects directly with your nervous system and tissues. For the second half, the bowls come off your body, and I play them around you, mostly behind your head, where the sound opens out and surrounds you, filling the room with rich, soothing tones.

Clients often report reduced pain and improved sleep.

Crystal singing bowl sound bath

$140 for one person, $200 for two

For tired, wired, cluttered minds craving stillness and tranquillity

The clear, spacious sound of these bowls creates a lighter, more ethereal sound bath experience — perfect if you are feeling foggy, weighed down, or in need of perspective.

I work with the psychology of intervals, pairing bowls so that some create gentle tension while others resolve it, which is a little bit like receiving a massage. Crystal bowls produce a very pure sound wave and release a gentle vibration, so you can really feel the effect of each interval.

The long clear tones layer over one another and suspend in the air, creating a calm, open and expansive feeling in the system.

Available for one or two people at Moja Wellbeing Studio in Newlands, Wellington.

Tuning fork sound bath

1 hour — $140 for one person

For deep rest, fresh perspective and relief from tension held around the head, jaw, and sinuses

The close, precise sound of the forks creates an absorbing, intimate sound bath experience—ideal if your mind is always busy and you find it hard to switch off.

Two forks are struck together so their notes form an interval, then held beside each ear and moved in slow circles and waves. This movement lets the sound travel inside and around your head. Because the tones arrive so close, your mind naturally follows, letting everything else slip away.

Most people find themselves entering a profound state of rest, where thoughts stop altogether. Clients frequently report their sinuses clearing and leave with a sense of clarity and fresh perspective.

Available as a one-person session at Moja Wellbeing Studio in Newlands, Wellington.

Voice sound bath

1 hour — $140 for one person

For comfort, reassurance, and anyone who needs to feel held

The warmth of the human voice creates a softer, more personal sound bath — perfect if you need comfort or have been carrying a lot on your own.

I sing long, sustained tones and vowel sounds, shaping the overtones as they emerge. The sound arrives as something familiar and deeply felt, often guiding you into a deep state of relaxation. The voice pairs beautifully with the Himalayan bowls, and I often combine them for their therapeutic and nurturing effects.

Most people describe a sense of being held, and it is common for loved ones to appear in their minds while they rest. Most of us haven't been sung to since we were children, and clients often say that is exactly what it reminds them of.

Suitability

Sound therapy is gentle and suits most people, but it may not be the right fit if you're in early pregnancy, have a pacemaker or other implanted device, live with epilepsy, or are particularly sensitive to sound. If any of these apply, or you're simply unsure, just get in touch before booking. Most sessions can be adapted to suit you, and if it isn't the right fit, I'll help you find what is.

Accessiblity

I offer a sliding scale for those facing financial hardship alongside a health challenge or caring responsibility. If you are unsure what you can afford, please get in touch.
